Of all People in all the World

Are we actually living in a post fact age? What are our decisions and our actions based on? How can we know what it all means for us? British theatre group Stan’s Café succeeds in letting statistics speak for themselves, in an unusual, humorous, moving, and above all educational way. And all it takes is a ton of rice. Piles and piles of rice, and each grain represents one person. On the large stage at Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, a landscape is created to represent the world: political relations, historic conflicts, crises and wars of the future, but also personal fates, love stories and glimmers of hope. Numbers become stories in the belief that facts are facts. The spectators are encouraged to ask the artists questions while they create an everchanging landscape with the rice.

In der lokalen WAZ wird die wichtige Frage aufgeworfen, wie gehen wir mit Lebensmitteln um und was führt wirklich zu Hunger und Unterernährung in der Welt? Genau diese Fragen stellt die Installation. Aber provozieren nicht eher die von den Reishügel veranschaulichten Fakten uns selbst unliebsame Fragen zu stellen?
