Military parades, the Olympic Games, dance performances and beauty contests – Köken Ergun’s video installations are all about cultural events, ceremonial occasions, the rituals and the political structures they are based on and which define them. Recipient of many awards, this Turkish artist presents his work in a lounge experience.

Urbane Künste Ruhr, under their new artistic director Britta Peters, is initiating a residency programme for international artists in the Ruhr Region. The residencies are awarded independent of any particular project and enable artists to live and work in the region.

Two twelve-month residencies have been awarded in cooperation with the Silent University and the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr for artists Wasim Ghrioui (Syria) and Mohamed Altoum (Sudan).
