The Excavation
vorschlag:hammer
“Authenticity is not about factuality or reality. It is about authority. Objects have no authority; people do.” Crew/Sims (1991)
vorschlag:hammer have been excavating. As hardworking interns and globe-trotting tourists they have set up an archive of real artefacts which they dig up a second time round on stage. Why do artefacts count as authentic? What can they tell us about the past, what is really “real” and who decides that anyway?
Using archaeological methods, vorschlag:hammer speculate about the biography of the objects and about the people who used them - reconstructing the past and history. Every find, every classification sees the past impacting on the present and can be used as a potent tool: it is difficult to refute what is real, but it can be interpreted in so many ways.
