ROOTS! Roots, do they really separate us people?
Roots, do they really separate us people? What are POCs and who is behind the migrants with a migration background? Are the terms still up to date? What happened to the Summer Fairytale of 2006? Are Boateng and Fatih Akin only German when they win trophies? And why is "Johanna" invited to job interviews, but "Hatice" rarely?
People of colour are generally referred to as migrants or "3rd generation immigrants" due to a biographical aspect of their parents. This puts so-called migrants
and Germans in opposition to each other and reproduces a cliché image in which naturalisation and the transcultural identity of the younger generations are not recognised and perceived.
Everyday experts -students, workers, academics, cultural workers and many others - with a so-called migrant background provide insights into their experiences as
people of colour in Germany through interviews. The result is a haunting and sensitive collage of scenes that negotiates and processes the anger, despair and hope of the participants and their experience of institutional racism in the form of biographical acting scenes, improvised (jazz) music and elements of hip hop dance.
