Ich nehm dir alles weg – Ein Schlagerballett

Choreographer and director Joana Tischkau, winner of the 2024 Tabori Prize for the Performing Arts, opens the Impulse Edition 2025 with her latest dance theatre performance ‘Ich nehm dir alles weg - Ein Schlagerballett’.

Inspired by the song by Haftbefehl and the subtitle of the early Pina Bausch work "Ich bring Dich um die Ecke. Schlagerballett" from 1974, Tischkau and her twelve-strong team dissect the German (pop) cultural home narrative. In a frontal show style, the seven performers evoke Black German pop stars of past decades such as Roberto Blanco, Randolph Rose, Marie Nejar and Tina Daute and cast a spotlight on Pina Bausch's company as probably the best-known export hit of recent German high culture. With this work, Joana Tischkau continues her artistic research into Black German cultural history between self-attribution and attribution to others, projection and reflection: Following her acclaimed production ‘Last Night a DJ took my Life’, for ‘Ich nehm dir alles weg - Ein Schlagerballett’ she pulls out another box from the archive of the ‘Deutsches Museum für Schwarze Unterhaltung und Black Music’.
