NO SPEED NO LIMIT – Via Regia

The three-part project ‘Via Regia’ brings together the interdisciplinary artistic collective fachbetrieb rita grechen from Dresden and the artist group MFK Bochum along the old Via Regia trade route. The two groups invite you to experience actions, interventions and performances at various locations: first digitally during the ‘NO SPEED NO LIMIT’ cycle tour along the Via Regia with fachbetrieb rita grechen, then live in the park at the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr for their ‘SOFT PERFORMANCE WELCOME PARTY’ to mark the arrival of cyclists in Mülheim an der Ruhr, and finally in Cologne in the Gremberger Wäldchen on the A4 motorway for the performance ‘SONIC HIGHWAY’ by MFK Bochum.

Esra and Heit cycle from east to west, from Görlitz to Mühlheim an der Ruhr and on to Cologne, more than 900 kilometers along the Via Regia. They get lost in landscapes and cities, miss each other while searching for each other, and meet other characters along the way. "NO SPEED NO LIMIT" is a staged bicycle tour along the historic trade route, which in the Middle Ages played a key role in the exchange of goods and ideas between cities such as Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Erfurt, Leipzig, and Görlitz. Parts of the tour can be joined by the audience; everything will be streamed live. The protagonists Esra and Heit stop again and again to rest and eat, to rest their weary legs, and to think aloud. "NO SPEED NO LIMIT" is a portrait of Germany between East and West, a road movie on a bicycle, a serial novel via livestream.

"SONIC HIGHWAY," the third and final part of the Via Regia project, takes place in a long-contested setting for incompatible mobility and urban planning: the Gremberger Wäldchen. Preparations for the expansion of the A4 from six to eight lanes will soon begin on its south side. Since 2020, the MFK Bochum group has been on the road, without a car. On foot, they linger along the highway verges between the Ruhr region and Slovakia, encountering multifaceted contradictions and realities along the increasingly dense European roads. Now they are stopping in the remains of Cologne's oldest natural forest and inviting you to sit in a place where they themselves are guests. A bar opens, Fachbetrieb Rita Grechen's bicycle delegation from Saxony arrives, and the last roars of internal combustion engines punctuate the quiet Sunday afternoon activity.
