hannsjana: Tyrannosaurus Regina
"ORWO was the largest women's company in the GDR with a female workforce of over 50 per cent [...] and is still often cited today as proof of the equality of East German women. With its performance “Tyrannosaurus Regina”, the artists' collective hannsjana scratches this myth in a rather funny way by crossing the theme of Eastern feminism with the seemingly disparate fascination with dinosaurs, which predominantly affects men." Eva Berendt, Theatre today, August/September 2024
At first glance, the women's movement in the GDR and dinosaurs have absolutely nothing to do with each other - apart from the fact that they no longer exist, but their former existence can still be felt today. However, the artists of the hannsjana group bring these two themes together in a playful and clever way. Equipped with headphones, the audience embarks on a palaeontological excavation tour with performative interventions through the park at Schloss Broich, where questions about East and West German narratives of feminism and patriarchal narratives come to light as historical traces are uncovered at three stations - layer by layer: How can dominant narratives be rewritten? Which narratives about women in the East have made it to the West and why are the narratives of the West German women's movement considered the norm in feminist memory culture?
