Werk-Disko – ein gemeinsamer Tanzspaziergang
Mandy Unger
“Werk-Disko” (Factory Disco) is a musical dance-walk – an invitation to experience places of work in a fresh way. This project, led by choreographer, dancer and networker Mandy Unger, is based on research in western and eastern Germany: she works alongside local people in Zschornewitz in Saxony-Anhalt and in Mülheim an der Ruhr to explore former workplaces and their stories. To this end, she seeks out sites – old industrial grounds, factories, power plant settings – that were once centres of work and community but are no longer places of employment, or have long since ground to a halt. The Mülheim an der Ruhr edition revives these sites of “blood, sweat and tears”, turning them into spaces for movement, dance and vibrancy for people. A curated landscape of electronic music emerges in the old buildings in which bodies, sound and history interleave in new ways. As the highlight and conclusion of the research, all research partners and Mülheim audiences are invited to walk through the former worksites – to listen, dance and encounter each other with dancing bodies instead of working ones.

Within the framework of the network funding by the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the OSTEN Festival Bitterfeld-Wolfen and the Impulse Festival are cooperating and exchanging experiences of transformation in East and West. In two artistic residencies between Saxony-Anhalt and the Ruhr region, Mandy Unger and lynn t musiol are researching former workplaces as well as queer and civic practices of resistance.
This is a walk with performative interventions. The ground conditions along the path vary greatly, including paved paths, grass areas, and steps. The dance walk is not accessible for wheelchair users.
