Artistic Director / Management (d/w/m) from July 2023
The Ringlokschuppen Ruhr is a regionally and internationally active production centre in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The socially engaged house develops, produces and presents groundbreaking dance, theatre, performance and pop cultural formats. The Ringlokschuppen sees itself as a place of community, as a space of possibility for aesthetic debate and social imagination. With its roots in socio-culture, the house initiates regular offers in cultural education and participatory art projects in the urban space.

Since 2018, the team has been undergoing a comprehensive diversification process on a programmatic, structural and personnel level, which brings a different concept of culture to the fore. Instead of identity politics and an interculture of coexistence, the staff focus on transcultural exchange and longer-term collaborations. This gives rise to new aesthetics, formats and forms of expression that also reflect the social and demographic realities of the Ruhr region. Multilingualism and translation practices are just as much an integral part of artistic production processes as socio-political discourses in the team.

A special focus is the promotion of young artists within the framework of interdisciplinary formats (workshops, residencies, festivals). Currently, the team is undergoing a clear generational change in several areas of work, which holds great opportunities for the further profiling of the house. With the new artistic director, the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr should take further steps towards a transcultural theatre of the future, in which strong artistic positions and social inclusion meet productively.
IN ORDER TO LEAD THE RINGLOKSCHUPPEN RUHR INTO THE FUTURE, WE ARE LOOKING FOR A COMMITTED ARTISTIC DIRECTOR WITH THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

-Passion and entrepreneurial spirit to further develop the cross-genre production centre Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, which is organised as a non-profit association.
-an artistic and programmatic vision for the future of the performing arts in the Ruhr region, in NRW and internationally management experience in the cultural sector, especially in the independent performing arts
-profound knowledge of the independent scene and its discourses
-willingness to shape the economic framework conditions of the house together with the commercial management
-experience and cultural-political competence in dealing with funding applications and funding institutions as well as the acquisition of third-party funds
-high level of self-motivation, communication skills, social competence and flexibility
an artistic and programmatic sense for socially relevant discourses that address and reflect regionally specific issues
-a collegial management style that respects flat hierarchies and the different lifestyles and realities of the staff.

The Artistic Director is responsible for the content and conceptual orientation and programming of the theatre, the theatre operations and the cultural-political work. Optionally, the Artistic Director can also take over the management. Together with the commercial director, they form the management team.
