Embraced Multilinguism in Germany
In an increasingly globalised society, multilingualism is an important resource. Essential for our work at Silent University, we will start after the summer break with a series of lectures dedicated to the importance of multilingualism.
Due to the complexity of this topic there will be two short lectures on 29. 9 followed by a discussion. Niklas Tijé-Dra (Linguist/Silent University) will begin with his keynote lecture „Diversity and Translation as Cultural Practice", to show how multifaceted multilingualism works in Germany.
The second lecture by Bridget Fonkeu (Linguistin/Silent University) deals with peculiarities of lived multilingualism in Germany, concentrating on „code switchings" and „language borrowings" in the English-German context. After the 15-minutes impulse lectures, the event opens for a joint discussion. Lectures will be held in German and English with Arabic translation. There is also the possibility of free childcare.
