MANSPLAINING

MANSPLAINING - Talking about power with power is a lecture performance by and with Marcel Nascimento. In a performative self-experiment, he faces the demands on his gender and the question of when is a man actually a man? MANSPLAINING sums up an intensive research phase in a playful, performative way on which the viewers themselves have an influence.

Many decisions in our life depend on the gender we are assigned at birth. From the beginning, adolescents are taught what it means to be a man or a woman. You are one or the other, never both. But: when is a man actually a man? What does he have to fulfill, how should he act and how should he present himself to be a real man?

In the face of authoritarian presidents, the return to traditional role models and sensational hashtag campaigns, Marcel faces up to the demands of his gender in a multimedia self-experiment. In his solo performance he delves into the discourse about “true masculinity”. The audience takes part in the research process and in the end the question remains: What actually makes Marcel a man?

Marcel Nascimento ist Performer, Videokünstler und studiert Szenische Forschung (M.A. Ruhr-Universität Bochum). Seine künstlerischen Forschungsinteressen liegen vor allem in den Bereichen Queer Studies, Sexualität, Körperbilder sowie der Pop-Kultur. Die Forschung an Identität und dem Selbst liegen im Zentrum seines Interesses. Mediale Mittel und das Verhältnis des Zuschauers zum Performer sind für ihn essentiell. Er ist Teil des Performancekollektivs notsopretty, zusammen produzierten sie 2019 DER COMPUTER NUMMER 3 – eine multimediale Performance über Dating-Apps.

Miriam Michel ist freie Regisseurin (dorisdean) und Dramaturgin, entwickelt Theaterprojekte mit jungen und alten Menschen, und ist Dozentin am Institut für Theaterwissenschaft der Ruhr-Universität Bochum und an der Folkwang Universität der Künste. Außerdem erforscht sie als Dokumentarfilmerin und Künstlerin (Collagen, Videoperformances) immer wieder die Welt um sie herum und versucht Menschen und ihre Realität zu verstehen. Die verschiedenen Medien und Positionen, die sie dabei einnimmt, helfen ihr, den eigenen Standpunkt zu überprüfen und neue Blicke zu proben
