Although the German health system is considered one of the most advanced in the world, there are nevertheless structural problems regarding the situation of refugees and immigrants. These include language barriers and a lack of comprehensive information, but also an often low awareness of differences in attitudes towards certain areas of health care (e.g. taboo diseases). Insurance rights and entitlements are not easily accessible for immigrants in some cases. Differences in the medical and health needs of migrants from countries outside Europe are often not part of the training or professional experience of doctors in Germany, e.g. the knowledge that certain medicines are not tolerated by many people from African countries. To address these issues, Silent University Ruhr organises a series of events with the support of organisations of migrant health workers (e.g. CAMFOMEDICS).
