Translation-Workshop
Language is a means of transmitting culture. When people come to new environments, they bring their language and culture with them, which leads to multilingualism and multiculturalism. Germany is no different from other immigration countries in this respect. No one should be underestimated or excluded because of perceived limited linguistic abilities. Translation therefore plays an essential role for exchange, discussion and presentation in spaces that want to address migrants, such as the Silent University Ruhr. Translation skills are not only aimed at linguistic clarity. It is also necessary to take cultural differences into account, otherwise serious misunderstandings can occur. This workshop series aims to make participants aware of how translation can remedy the disadvantages faced by migrants and encourage them to develop their translation skills.
